The Course is intended for senior persons involved with the use, assessment or procurement of personal armour
equipment. Access to the Course is restricted to Police, Armed Forces, Government Agencies, and members of the
Private Security Industry licensed by The Security Industry Authority.
Applications from other professions will, however,
be considered, such as from journalists going to work in hostile environments.
The Course is open to nationals from
EU and NATO countries.
The Course has three main aims;
- to explain and demonstrate the material construction, dynamic operation and true level of protection
of personal armour equipment;
- to provide information to help with equipment selection, procurement and deployment;
- to discuss attack threats and risk assessments.
Venue: The Sørensen Centre, Barbourne Road, Worcester and Lorica Research Limited,
Brockhill Laboratory, Worcester, United Kingdom.
An alternative venue of your choice may be used. If you wished to see live firing demonstrations at your alternative
venue, access to a licensed firing range would be necessary.
- You will see and handle materials used in the construction of ballistic- and stab-resistant body-armour vests
and jackets, and ballistic-resistant shields and helmets.
- You will see personal armour equipment tested on the shooting range and gain a good understanding of
their physical nature and dynamic operation.
- You will learn facts about personal armour equipment - the benefits, the limitations and the true degree of
protection to expect.
- You will learn how to compare personal armour products and the meaning of such terms as 'blunt
trauma' and 'areal density'.
- You will see live demonstrations of formal ballistic and stab test procedures including those of the UK
Home Office Scientific Development Branch (HOSDB) and of the US National Institute of Justice (NIJ).
The Course organisers and presenters guarantee that materials and items of personal armour equipment shown
on this course are discussed with complete impartiality. No commercial promotion of proprietary products of any
kind takes place. They further guarantee that any advice and guidance given will be completely free of
commercial interest. |
